What is a Recruiter?
Navigating the job market can be overwhelming, especially when it comes to understanding the different roles of recruiters, resume writers, and career coaches.
Each of us play a unique part in the job search process, and knowing how we can support you is key to making the most of our services.
Recruiters:
Recruiters find people for jobs…not jobs for people.
There are essentially 2 different types of recruiters. Corporate or In-House Recruiters and Recruiters referred to as Third-Party, External, Staffing or Headhunters (among other names)
Recruiters act as intermediaries between employers and job seekers. A recruiter’s primary goal is to find the right candidates for open positions within companies.
Types of Recruiters and How We Help:
Corporate Recruiters represent their employer and are responsible for, in basic terms, working with hiring managers to define job descriptions, posting the open roles in the Applicant Tracking System, on the company website and job search boards like LinkedIn and Indeed.com. The Corporate Recruiter will typically review applicant resumes, search resume databases for qualified candidates, perform the initial screening interview with a candidate, and manage the interview process with the hiring team through extending an offer of employment. Corporate Recruiters typically earn a salary and bonuses based on performance.
External recruiters consult with their client’s hiring managers and/or Human Resources and Recruiting teams to search for candidates for their client companies open roles. An external recruiter can and may perform all of the duties of a Corporate Recruiter regarding all the administrative and project management tasks of talent acquisition. Companies will use the services of external recruiters for a variety of reasons including: A company may not have a full time recruiting team, knowledge of a specific specialized skill set or experience, to support a confidential search, to hire executive level talent or to augment their current team in times of high-volume hiring.
External Recruiters typically are paid a percentage of a hired candidates first year salary by their client. The typical fee ranges from 15% to 30% of the hired candidates first year salary.
How Do Recruiters Help - The Short Version:
For Employers: Recruiters help companies fill open roles by sourcing, screening, and presenting qualified candidates. They have a deep understanding of the job market and the specific needs of the employers they represent.
For Job Seekers: While recruiters can help you find job opportunities, it’s important to note that they work for the employer, not the candidate. They may reach out to you if your profile matches a job they’re trying to fill, but they’re not there to guide your overall career strategy or help you prepare your application materials.
When to Use a Recruiter: If you’re looking for opportunities in your field and want access to job openings that may not be advertised publicly, connecting with a recruiter can be beneficial. However, remember that their focus is on filling the employer’s needs, so don’t rely on them for comprehensive career guidance.
