Networking is still a thing…

Networking Is Still a Thing—And So Are Good Recruiters.

Yes, I’m a recruiter. I built a niche talent acquisition consultancy over a decade ago—long before LinkedIn, Monster, Indeed, and definitely before "Easy Apply" and AI.

So, let me be crystal clear for those in the back:
NOT ALL RECRUITERS ARE MONEY-GRUBBING JERKS.

Some of us still believe in real networking. Some of us still answer the phone when someone says, "Do you know someone who…?" And yes—some of us even help people when there’s no fee involved.

Here’s what blows my mind:
When a recruiter sends a message—not asking if you're looking—but asking if you know someone… the number of people who auto-respond with, “I’m not interested” without reading the note is wild.

Newsflash: Not everything is about you.
We might be looking for a unicorn—you may not be that unicorn—but maybe you know one. Follow me?

Look, recruiters get paid to find people for jobs, not jobs for people—and yes, we like to get paid for our work. But some of us do plenty without expecting a dime because we actually believe in helping people.

So, next time a recruiter reaches out, maybe don’t jump to conclusions. You never know when that one message could be the connection someone else desperately needs.

Recruiters are the ultimate networkers. And no, we’re not always chasing a paycheck.
